In honor of Marland Alden Austin, 1928-2010

Today, my great-grandfather passed away. He was much loved as a husband, father, brother, friend, grandfather and great-grandfather. We will all miss him dearly. Love you great-grandpa. XOXOXOXO.

Superbowling and other whatnots...

Alas, there will be no pictures in this post, just things that mommy has seen/heard over the past few weeks...

Tyler was desperate to get out his bowling pins and when asked why, he said he was going to do superbowling. When asked what that was, he said, "silly mama, it's like bowling, only super style." Obviously, I had not done a great job of explaining what the superbowl was.

I mentioned to Tyler that we were going to a superbowl party, which was my mistake, b/c the word party is synonymous with cake, of which there was none for this party. So, on our way to the party, we stopped at a grocery store to grab some cupcakes for the kids. While were were in the grocery store, two college guys were arguing, it was apparent that neither of them were sober and the discussion was getting rather heated, so what does Tyler do? He marches right up to them and says, "If you have a problem, you should talk about it, that's how we do it at school." I, of course, immediately ushered him out of harms way and I think he may have actually prevented a fight. The two guys involved were completely stunned and taken aback, they didn't know what to do. While other shoppers, muttered an array of things, such as "good for him," and "why isn't his mother keeping a closer eye on him."

Overheard in the playroom.
Tyler: Remi, I'm going to count to three and if you don't make a good choice, you will have time out.
Remi: aahh, ggahhh, mamama, T T T T, etc.
Tyler: one, two, Remi this is your last chance, 3. Ok, you have timeout. Go sit on the step.
Remi: dadadadada, gagaga
Tyler: Fine, mommy wouldn't do this, but you can have timeout right here.
Remi: babababa, abababa, gamamama
Tyler: Ok, Remi, why did you have timeout?
Remi: ssssssss, mooooo, ssssss
Tyler: That's right, you took the cow I was playing with. I love you Remi and I know you can make good choices. Give me a hug.

Can you tell what happens in our house over and over and over, throughout the day. I couldn't believe the kid had my spiel down to the intonation!

I was upstairs, trying to make some sense of the chaos that are our bedrooms. I was putting laundry away in our room and in Remi's room. I knew Tyler was playing in his room and I assumed that Remi was with him, but then I realized, she had been way too quiet... So, I set off to find her and I didn't have to look far, on my way to Tyler's bedroom, I saw a blur in the bathroom, I turned and saw Remi CHUGGING the baby wash. She had actually gotten the top pumper thing off and had the bottle tipped up and baby wash was oozing down her face. She of course, stopped, smiled at me, and then went back to her "drink." I should have gotten the camera but I was just so taken aback by the scene, I didn't think about picture moments. I took the bottle of baby wash from her and I kid you not, when Remi tried to talk, she blew bubbles!

Tyler: Mama, are you still married to daddy?
Me: Yes, baby, I am.
Tyler: Oh. long pause. Can you tell me when you are done, because I want to marry you and Remi wants to marry daddy. You have to learn to share.

After learning that Grandma Jo was coming to watch Tyler and Remi, while we went on vacation, Tyler implored me to take Remi with us. Reason being...Remi would eat all of the ice cream when we were gone and there would be none left for special snacks for him and Grandma Jo. (Remi has never even had ice cream!)

Snow Day

Another 10+ inches of snow fell the other night and I woke up to a winter wonderland. The trees were all frosted thick white snow and there was the still and calm that only a big snowfall can bring. Well, I decided I'd had enough of that calm, so we headed outside to make some noise and shovel the driveway. Remi was none to happy to be bundled up in her snowsuit and did her best to disrupt the peace and quiet of our sleepy neighborhood. She screamed and screamed and screamed some more, so much so that one neighbor actually came outside to check on us... Well, mommy was working at a furious rate to get the driveway shoveled and I wasn't feeling all that much like helping, so I went to the backyard and found my hockey stick and a puck and played a bit of hockey while mommy shoveled and Remi screamed. Once the driveway was cleaned up, sort of, we headed back inside. Ellie, one of our neighbors came over to play and while we were playing "ice" hockey with ice cubes, mommy was making a fire in the fireplace and surprised us with marshmallows! We got to roast marshmallows in our fireplace and then eat them on graham crackers! Remi even got to have a graham cracker, she's not quite ready for the marshmallow yet...

This is pretty much what Remi was like the entire time

Patiently waiting my turn

Me, in action. Turns out I don't like the heat all that much

Enjoying the fruits of our labors

Celebrating Meg's birthday and U of M hockey game

Well, Meg (Fred and Jack's mom), one of our neighbors, had a birthday on Saturday, so we all headed to a hibachi house for dinner and then daddy and I, along with Fred and his daddy went to another hockey game! Below are some pics of our dinner and then our night out at the hockey game.

Remi, anxiously awaiting the show to begin at the hibachi house

Me, being silly!

Buddies

Yeah, I know, very few people can pull off this look...

Not sure what I like better about hockey games. The endless amount of popcorn I'm allowed to eat or the band! The actual hockey, that comes in a very distant 3rd...

Gotta have a pic of the zamboni's. I've been rethinking my favorites list about the hockey game. The list is as follows; Band, popcorn, zamboni's and then the actual sport.

Ahhh, my love

Random photo's from the past few weeks

This is now what our living room looks like on a daily basis. I like to pull all of the cushions off of the couch and build a ship. I always make sure to have a driver chair stationed at the front of the ship.

Remi found my hockey helmet, so I helped her put it on. Ok, so she's a strong girl, but not quite strong enough to lift her head up with the helmet on!

Hangin' out with a redsox sweatshirt and a hockey helmet, I'm proud my sister has her sports priorities straight...

Wheeeee!

Talk to the hand

This is after several face washings... We made the olympic rings with paint and plungers at school and apparently, I was VERY enthusiastic about it and got paint all over my face. The blotch above my eye was all that was left, after Ellen, my teacher, got ahold of some paper towel and my face! Man, that woman can scrub!

Since I got to sit on a Zamboni, I thought it would be appropriate for my remote controlled zamboni to have a driver. After a bit of searching I came up with this! One of my "Little People" fits perfectly on my zamboni.

Why not hang out in your undies (which are on backwards) and wear daddy's boots.

Remi, hanging out in the playroom and looking out the window, trying to wave at people walking by

apparently, I've already hit my awkward years...

How many things can she hold?
