On May 1st, I took part in the 31st annual Burns Park Run, a fundraiser benefiting Burns Park Elementary (which would be my school if we are still living here). Over 1000 people ran the 5K, over 400 ran the 10K and 200 kids ran the 1/2 mile fun run. The fun run was the race I decided to enter this year. Having a bum foot and lugging around an extra 10lbs of cast material, I didn't think it wise to push myself this year...
Well the fun run, was just that, fun. I finished dead last, but I did it, all by myself, never stopping and never allowing anyone to help me. Comments such as, "daddy I'm tired, don't talk to me." were commonplace during my 1/2 mile jog. But, like I said, I finished and was awarded a blue ribbon, I won first place in the cast division (ok, there was no cast division and everyone got a blue ribbon, but it was still pretty fun). Below are a few pics from the event.
The 5K runners getting ready to start, the line of runners spanned over a block before the start
The start...
Meggers, one of my favorite neighborhood moms, running the race and having a great time doing it!
Ellie, my neighbor across the street was showing me how her knee was hurting during the race
Yup, that's our house, and that's our friend Mary blowing past it.
Fred, a neighbor, a friend, and a kindergartner ran the 5k and won his age group , and his 4th grader brother, Jack, got 2nd for his age group in the 10K.
This is me, patiently waiting for the 5k and 10k to finish so the fun run could start.
The finish line with microchips recording the times down to the 100th of a second. (whatever that is!)
My biggest fan! Let me tell you, it's nice to look up at the start line and see that smiling face!
Daddy and I stretching before the race
The start of my race was INTENSE, I was worried I was going to get trampled.
chugging along
Ok, so the fun run was more of an off road type of run
That's me, way far away and all by my lonesome...
Down the home stretch
I was so tired I could barely see straight, luckily daddy was running in front of me to lead me to the finish line (which had basically disbanded by the time I got there)
My blue ribbon!
