After the zoo...

The weather was warm, not exactly running in the backyard naked warm, but the spirit moved me... After our naps in the car on the way home from the zoo, we decided to drag out the pool and have ourselves a little water fun. Not sure how there are only naked pictures of me, b/c let me tell you, little miss Remi had no inhibitions about shedding her clothes...

Our smiley girl

The water was COLD, but she had no problems jumping right in

I'm not actually posing, just practicing my behind the back spray technique

Nature's Neighborhood

The Toledo Zoo has an awesome kids section. They have goats (which happened to have been on break while we were there) to feed and groom. A giant play structure, a garden where you can actually garden, different imaginative play scape, a river that is meant to be played and crawled in, an indoor forest, and so much more. After our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and awesome picnic lunch mommy packed us, we headed off to Nature's Neighborhood before heading back to the car where Remi and I both passed out as soon as we were buckled in.

Don't we look silly

Remi hanging out in a honeycomb

Remi and daddy found some bee costumes, so Remi and I both terrorized the indoor forest dressed as bees

We can't quite seem to take any decent pictures together. This may prove challenging for the photographer at Uncle Brandon's wedding.

My little busy bee!

I am Tyler the Turtle at school, so I had to get a pic of me with the turtle

Remi, shroomin' already...

Pullin' up my pants so I can wade in the river

Remi loved the river, she splashed and splashed and did not want to leave

"oh hell, I'm already wet, I might as well just sit down." Luckily mommy prepared for this very thing and brought extra sets of clothing for us

Toledo Zoo

A few weeks ago, daddy surprised us all by taking a vacation day. To celebrate daddy being home and me getting my cast off, we loaded up and headed off to the zoo. This was the first time Remi had been to the zoo and actually understood what was going on. It was fun to watch her get so excited about things she'd only seen in books.

Remi was very excited to see a giraffe. She has a thing for them.

Remi's first carousel ride. She held on like a pro!

Being at the zoo and all, I thought it would be appropriate to ride a dolphin??!!

Special time with daddy

The best picture we have with the 2 of us together.

Remi got very excited to see the monkeys

I was pretty into watching them fly around as well

Do you see the giant orangutan. Remi is trying to crawl into the mother's lap!

On our way to the children's part of the zoo. So much fun to have our daddy with us

More special time with daddy

The rhino was taking nap and I followed his lead and was asleep 10 minutes later!

Burns Park Run 2010

On May 1st, I took part in the 31st annual Burns Park Run, a fundraiser benefiting Burns Park Elementary (which would be my school if we are still living here). Over 1000 people ran the 5K, over 400 ran the 10K and 200 kids ran the 1/2 mile fun run. The fun run was the race I decided to enter this year. Having a bum foot and lugging around an extra 10lbs of cast material, I didn't think it wise to push myself this year...

Well the fun run, was just that, fun. I finished dead last, but I did it, all by myself, never stopping and never allowing anyone to help me. Comments such as, "daddy I'm tired, don't talk to me." were commonplace during my 1/2 mile jog. But, like I said, I finished and was awarded a blue ribbon, I won first place in the cast division (ok, there was no cast division and everyone got a blue ribbon, but it was still pretty fun). Below are a few pics from the event.

The 5K runners getting ready to start, the line of runners spanned over a block before the start

The start...

Meggers, one of my favorite neighborhood moms, running the race and having a great time doing it!

Ellie, my neighbor across the street was showing me how her knee was hurting during the race

Yup, that's our house, and that's our friend Mary blowing past it.

Fred, a neighbor, a friend, and a kindergartner ran the 5k and won his age group , and his 4th grader brother, Jack, got 2nd for his age group in the 10K.

This is me, patiently waiting for the 5k and 10k to finish so the fun run could start.

The finish line with microchips recording the times down to the 100th of a second. (whatever that is!)

My biggest fan! Let me tell you, it's nice to look up at the start line and see that smiling face!

Daddy and I stretching before the race

The start of my race was INTENSE, I was worried I was going to get trampled.

chugging along

Ok, so the fun run was more of an off road type of run

That's me, way far away and all by my lonesome...

Down the home stretch

I was so tired I could barely see straight, luckily daddy was running in front of me to lead me to the finish line (which had basically disbanded by the time I got there)

My blue ribbon!

Funnies...

Things seen and heard around the house the past few weeks

A few weeks ago, Tyler spent all of Monday night vomiting all over his bed, this is the conversation that ensued...
Tyler: I got sickie and spit it out on my bed
Mommy (who witnessed the entire episode): It's ok baby, lets get you undressed. I'm going to turn on your light now. Close your eyes.
Tyler (After seeing the disaster on his bed): Mama, you better wake up daddy, we're going to need some help in here.

President Barack Obama spoke at University of Michigan commencement and it was the talk of the town and apparently they discussed it in school.
Tyler: Mama, did you know the President is coming to Ann Arbor?
Mommy: Yes, Tyler, I did. Daddy and I are going to hear him speak on Saturday.
Tyler: So you are going to get to see OOOOOOOOOOObama?
Mommy: Yes, I am.
Tyler: Be sure to say hi for me, ok?

Later on Saturday, there were helicopters everywhere and Tyler literally tried to follow the helicopters with his babysitter. He still talks about seeing Obama's helicopters.

After a particularly stressful interaction with Tyler
Tyler: Mama, are you frustrated?
Mommy: Yes, Tyler, I am.
Tyler: You shouldn't get frustrated, it's bad for your blood pressure
I have no clue where he heard this.

This is what I see when I come into the living room after taking out the garbage. Remi, sitting in the middle of the living room with a full bottle of white wine (unopened) tipped back, pretending to drink it. She sees me, puts down the wine, says, "aaahhhhh," and goes for another swig. By the time I had gotten the camera, she was on to something new. We've never had problems with Tyler and the liquor cabinet, but with Remi, that's the first thing she goes for on a daily basis! I am worried about the teenage years already.

Tyler brought home a wrapped mothers day gift that he had made at school.
Mommy: What is that Tyler, a gift?
Tyler: Yeah, it's something for the garden. I'm supposed to give it to you, but I'm going to wait and give it to daddy after he comes home from work.
Gotta love being a mom...

Tyler was tickling Remi's feet while she was in her high chair.
Tyler: Hey mama!
Mommy: Yeah
Tyler: Remi's feet stink just like yours! You match!
He then spends 10 minutes going back and forth between my feet and Remi's saying, "ooohhhh, stinky, stinky!" And holding his nose.
